REVIEW
Global efforts in improving the conditions of women’s reproductive rights and health are a good sign for humanity. In the implementation of the recommendations and declarations of each global and regional conference, however, is not as smooth as it is expected. Policies in each country differ from one another. From the neighboring countries like Malaysia, Philippines, and Singapore for example, they have already laws protecting those rights. Indonesia although follows the global effort and has also Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), yet the implementation and movement have so many obstacles. One of the obstacles is the ignorance of the decision and policy makers to the issues and the affecting results. Violence against women – including rape and domestic violence with its physical, psychological, and social consequences – is a silent trauma but affecting heavily to the victims’ well being. This book is an effort in presenting lessons learnt from the neighboring countries: Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore experiences in handling violence against women and its law protections. The book covers also the issues in Indonesia.

The introduction of the book will cover the dilemmatic issues on violence against women, its consequences, and law protection needs. Specifically domestic violence is a delicate issue since many factors such as culture and society as external factors, value and belief system within individuals, affects the decision to act and solve the problem. Also pregnancy continuance or abortion option for rape victim is also not an easy choice. Law to protect violence against women is heavily needed. Those issues will be discussed in this introduction.
